Oscar Peterson - The Complete Songbooks (1951-1956)

The Songbooks inherited from the musical tradition of Broadway are at the epicentre of Oscar Peterson’s musical culture ; this was also the case for the one he regarded as a master : Art Tatum. It was to the extent that Oscar Peterson recorded them twice. The first time was at the beginning of 1950s principly as a Trio with guitar and double bass, then a second time with double bass and drums a few years later. It is this first wonderful remastered series that is presented to you here.
Technical mastery, irresistible swing, constant inventivness and a remarkable complicity with Ray Brown, Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis characterise this sum of inexhaustible richness.

As deGallo just posted, the original part 1 of Disc 2 is now functioning properly. So many thanx for this monumental post, Melanchthon!! I have a few of these, but certainly not all until now, and the sound here is so much better than my old LP's. It's just great to hear all this earlier OP!! Again, many thanx for this and all your posts, and a very Happy New Year, sir!!

Typically, I sometimes love Oscar Peterson, and, somewhat more often, can easily do without him. But here you put me to the great challenge of trying to think more clearly about what musics he works well for me, and what musics I can leave him more readily than take him. And yet again, again, I thank you!!!
