All the musicians concerned, including myself, had such a great time making these records that we feel certain you'll toroughly enjoy them. To emphasize some of the oustanding features...
We think you'll enjoy the fresh sounds effected by the proper blending of the baritone sax, guitar, and clarinet or flute. We think you'll wnat to tap your feet because these sides swing hard. Furthermore, we think that these sides you will want to play over and over because they have an emotional appeal. The idea of blending thebaritone sax, guitar, clarinet or flute came to me after hearing the sounds of a composition I had written for baritone and clarinet at a Jazz Workshop concert.
I told my arranger, Ronnie Woellmer, that I wanted to present a unique group which had a pleasant sound, and above all, which would swing. Ronnie, who is one of the most competent and effective arrangers I know, went to work assiduously and turned out the ten arrangements in this album.
Just sit back, relax and listen to the inventiveness of each soloist, whose appearance on each piece is varied. We think you will hear jazz improvisation at its best ! I would like to express my gratitude to all the musicians who helped make this album for their excellent cooperation and sensitive work. Each one, I'm sure, is well known to every ardent modern jazz admirer.Sam Most, from the original notes (booklet)
