Back in Bean's Bag

This release contains the album Back in Bean’s Bag (Columbia CS8791) in its entirety. It marks the first recorded collaboration between Coleman Hawkins and Clark Terry, who are accompanied here by the Tommy Flanagan Trio. As a bonus, two additional songs that complete the session as well as some small group tunes recorded separately by Terry and Hawkins during a concert in homage to Eddie Costa. The latter show took place at the Village Vanguard shortly before the recording of our studio LP.

________
Hawkins teamed up with the personable trumpeter Clark Terry for this upbeat set of solid swing. Terry in particular is in exuberant form on ‘Feedin’ the Bean’ and a delightful version of ‘Don’t Worry About Me’, but Hawkins’s playing (particularly on the trumpeter’s ballad ‘Michelle’) is also in fine form. The Tommy Flanagan Trio assists the two classic hornmen on this superior LP.
