René Thomas - The Real Cat

Belgian guitarist René Thomas was one of the leading lights of the Parisian hardbop scene in the 50s — and this is some of his greatest work from the time ! The CD features 16 tracks pulled from a rare LP and EP — and the work features Thomas' guitar in the company of some of a lively quintet featuring either André Ross or Serge Monville on tenor sax, and either René Urtreger or Roland Ronchaud on piano. The work cooks in a way that some of Thomas' other records don't always do — with a straight tight hardbop feeling that's lean and clean throughout. Titles include "Shine", "L'Imbécile", "How About You", "The Real Cat", and "Night In Tunisia".
