Django Reinhardt 1936 (2)-1937 (1) - Intégrale, vol. 5

Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli had not been entirely content with their recording sessions with Ultraphone (1934-1935) and Polydor/Decca (1935-1936). The technicians were not solely responsible for the muffled and woolly quality that resulted, but the studios' often handed down material was not up to scratch.
The giant Pathé-Marconi, on the other hand, was equipped with techonology's latest inventions. Consequently, the 4th of May 1936 was an all-important date in the career of these two artists when accompanied by three other members of the Hot Club of France plus the Afro American singer and dancer, Freddy Taylor, they were summoned to their studios enabling their genius to be at last immortalised on wax. As from the first note, their powerful union with its multitude of contrasts is distinct. But despite the impact of this session, these talented musicians did not yet play together on a regular basis...
