Glenn Gould Remastered (part. 1, cd. 1-20)

In 1955 Glenn Gould signed an exclusive contract with Columbia Masterworks, and remained with the label until his untimely death in 1982. Gould’s first release, Bach’s Goldberg Variations, took the music world by storm, and immediately established the 22-year-old Canadian pianist as one of the most brilliant, original, charismatic and provocative classical performers of his time. Sixty years later, Gould’s prolific recorded output remains a stimulating presence. Now a completely remastered limited edition from Sony Classical, containing all the authorized Columbia recordings on 78 audio CDs, allows him to resound with greater fidelity to the originals than ever before.
The first generation of Goulds’ recordings were available on magnetic tape in the Columbia archives, permitting us to ensure maximum sonic authenticity by applying the high-resolution Direct Stream Digital procedure (DSD). Moreover, in one of the most lavish remastering projects of all time, the listening conditions in the studio were so elaborate that the recordings could be heard there with less distortion and greater clarity than Gould himself was accustomed to when listening to his takes.
The Glenn Gould RemasteredThe Complete Album Collection box set also contains a 416-page book with complete original liner notes (many penned by Gould himself), a wealth of facsimile documents, rare photographs, full discographical information, and a newly commissioned introductory essay by Gould scholar and biographer Kevin Bazzana. Three further CDs contain interviews and spoken commentary from Gould himself.

Merci beaucoup pour ce fantastique post. Il y a quand même un petit problème avec le cd10: il n'est pas possible de décomprimer aucun des deux fichiers.

THank you very much!
Whats wrong with CD10? cant open archive (((

Luis said...

Nothing wrong with CD10. Install 7zip if you have not done so yet. Right click file with extension 001 and choose open with 7Zip. File will open and you can now extract it to the directory of your choice. File 002 with extract automatically after 001.
Mel, thanks for this super share!

This post coincides with my rekindling of interest on Gould recently after watching him talk about Bach's music with such erudition and lucidity on a YouTube video. Thanks so much, Melanchthon.

Are you planning to post the 416-page booklet? (Doesn't really matter but was curious)

I did not have any issues downloading any of the 20 CDs shared here.

Again, Thanks a lot for overtaking such a gigantic project.

Everyone's griping about cd 10 but nobody's mentioned that the two links for cd 1 point to two different copies of the first half (Area-v15), and there's no second half!

Many thanks for this monumental set of posts otherwise, Mel!

...and I've double-checked everything is OK for Vol.2 and Vol.3, excepting Vol.3-CD46-Track1, which is missing.
Sorry again for being a nuisance.

Fourcade said...

@ Melanchthon: I offer my apologies re: missing tracks of the Glenn Gould Remastered. I was quite stupid in not understanding how to use 7zip properly.
But everything's OK now. Please accept again my excuses, and sorry for being such an obnoxious bore!
Cheers Daniel, from Spain...
