Oscar Peterson & Buddy DeFranco Play Gershwin

Clarinetist Buddy DeFranco and pianist Oscar Peterson usually make for an exciting team, and the thought of them romping through George Gershwin tunes is quite appealing. However, this CD finds the two soloists (plus guitarist Herb Ellis, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Bobby White) surrounded by strings arranged by Russ Garcia. The arrangements are OK, but nothing special ; the tempos are generally on the slower side. Although everyone plays well, the overall results are not too memorable and often a bit sleepy.
