Hal McKusick was a fine journeyman cool-toned bop-based altoist and clarinetist on this 1955 Bethlehem studio date (reissued on CD by Fresh Sound), McKusick is accompanied by guitarist Barry Galbraith, bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Osie Johnson on a variety of straightahead tunes including seven originals by arranger Manny Albam. The music is pleasing, light and swinging.

You play THE music I love. (I discovered Pandora a few months ago and here's my shuffle list: Clementi, Haydn, Django, Robert Johnson, Dave McKenna, Dave Brubeck, Old Time, Bluegrass, Art Tatum, Bill Evans, Alan Lomax, Carlos Montoya, Scarlatti.)
It looks as if it's possible to add favorite tracks to your blog or suggest stuff. (As I say, I'm an idiot about how it all works.)
Here's a suggestion. I've gotten kind of bored with Glenn Gould's Bach, but -- have you ever listened to Gould's Beethoven Bagatelles? Oh, so sweet and sly.
Samuel Feinberg's WTC is another discovey. Bach played in the style of Rachmaninov. In the notes to the CD set I own (it's come out on at least three labels) it mentions that Feinberg used to tell his students at the Moscow Conservatory that -- contrary to popular opinion -- the piano is not a percussion instrument, it is a string instrument.
