Lee Konitz & Bob Brookmeyer in Paris

Two unrelated quintet sessions led by altoist Lee Konitz and valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer are reissued in full on this Vogue CD. The Konitz set (with guitarist Jimmy Gourley, pianist Henri Renaud, bassist Don Bagley, and drummer Stan Levey) has 11 performances of four standards including five versions of "I'll Remember April." The cool-toned altoist is in fine form for his set, as is Bob Brookmeyer who plays one version apiece of four songs with Gourley, Renaud, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Frank Isola. Bop fans will want this fine straight-ahead set.
