The Wright Approach of Dempsey Wright

Dempsey Wright, who came out of nowhere to record a small label album in the 1970s, has been essentially forgotten for decades. However, on this Andex album (reissued on CD by V.S.O.P.), Wright holds his own with a strong supporting cast (Richie Kamuca on tenor, Victor Feldman doubling on piano and vibes, bassist Ben Tucker and drummer Stan Levey) on six swing-oriented standards and the obscure "Something for Lisa," all given Bill Holman arrangements. Wright had a quiet, appealing tone and a strong bop-based improvising style. Highlights of the disc include "Easy to Love," "Swingin' the Blues" and "Taps Miller."

Thank you for your great work, which I discovered thanks to musicians and recordings of the West Coast during the time I've been sick with depression, helped me mucho.GRACIAS OF HEART.

Dempsey Wright - The Wright Approach

Yet another wonderful jazz obscurity!

A most enjoyable album. It is sad that he did not record more.

Happy New Year, Mel!!!!!!

Nice to see you again.

Dempsey Wright - The Wright Approach is a delightful set as far as I can listen since I'm only able to extract Tracks 1 and 2; then 3:14 minutes of the 4:42 minute Track 3. From that point Track 3 is corrupted as are all the remaining tracks and the Artwork so they don't extract.

Several times I tried extracting with both 7z and with WinRar with the same results.

My download of Dmps Wrght - Th Wrght pprch.7z is 252,263KB, which seems correct. I hesitate to download again because the lack of recent comments suggests that the reposted file may indeed be corrupt.

Can you check? Thanks,

This is a first class recording by this little-known player. He turns up on a couple of other recordings around this time but I've been unable to find out much about him or what happened to him in later years. Anyone out there know anything?
